NVIDIA 582.78 — a new security driver for old graphics cards on architectures MaxwellPascal and Volta. The company has already stopped releasing regular Game Ready updates with new game optimizations for these generations, but continues to support them with critical and other security fixes. NVIDIA says that such updates for Maxwell, Pascal and Volta will be released quarterly for three years until October 2028.
Version NVIDIA 582.78 available for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. The driver is WHQL certified. The update primarily concerns owners of old ones Geforcewhich no longer receive regular game drivers.
Which video cards received NVIDIA 582.78
For desktop PCs, NVIDIA 582.78 covers part of Maxwell and Pascal graphics cards. The Maxwell list includes:
- GeForce GTX 745;
- GeForce GTX 750;
- GeForce GTX 750 Ti;
- GeForce GTX 950;
- GeForce GTX 960;
- GeForce GTX 970;
- GeForce GTX 980;
- GeForce GTX 980 Ti.
Pascal-based cards include GeForce GTX 1050, GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1070 Ti, GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti, as well as GT 1030 and GT 1010. Separately, the list includes NVIDIA TITAN V, TITAN Xp, TITAN X on Pascal and GeForce GTX TITAN X. For notebooks, support extends, in particular, to the GeForce GTX series 900M and GTX 10, as well as some mobile models MX110-MX350. At the same time it does not mean support for all GTX 700 series graphics cards. For example, old Kepler models like GeForce GT 730 no longer belong to this driver.
NVIDIA fixed 114 vulnerabilities
The main reason for releasing NVIDIA 582.78 is security. NVIDIA’s September newsletter states 114 vulnerabilitiesrelated to the vGPU graphics driver and software. 98 problems concern the display driver, another 16 — vGPU components. According to the level of danger, they are divided as follows:
- 1 is critical;
- 76 high level;
- 37 intermediate level.
Important nuance: critical vulnerability CVE-2026-47574 has a CVSS score of 9.9 and is about Linux vGPU Virtual GPU Manager. That is, it should not be interpreted as a critical problem for ordinary GeForce users under Windows. At the same time, among the fixes there are serious Windows driver problems, so the update remains relevant for owners of supported old video cards.
Older GeForces no longer receive Game Ready optimizations
NVIDIA has completed the release of new Game Ready drivers for Maxwell, Pascal and Volta in October 2025. This means that owners of such video cards should no longer expect regular updates with support for new games, performance optimizations or new features. Instead, the company left a separate security channel for these generations. NVIDIA plans to release quarterly security updates until October 2028. Therefore, NVIDIA 582.78 should not be taken as an ordinary driver with an improvement in FPS. Its main task is to close known vulnerabilities and preserve the security of systems with old GPUs.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 are supported
Driver NVIDIA 582.78 intended for Windows 10 and Windows 11 64-bit versions. NVIDIA’s official page lists the R580 U11 version 582.78 as a release date of July 30, 2026 and a package size of 725.13 MB for the corresponding RTX Enterprise branch, while the separate GeForce security version has its own package and list of supported GPUs. Therefore, when downloading, it is important to choose the driver for your video card model, and not to focus only on the version number.
Should I install NVIDIA 582.78?
If the computer uses GeForce on Maxwell, Pascal or Volta, which is included in the list of supported models, the update makes sense primarily from the point of view of security. It will not add new gaming features, but closes known problems in NVIDIA software. Owners of older GeForces actually get a separate mode of long-term security support: there will be no new Game Ready features, but NVIDIA will continue to fix serious vulnerabilities.
