iPhone 18 Pro is indeed capable of charging up to about 50% in 15 minutes, but requires a compatible SPR AVS-enabled adapter. The new standard allows more precisely selected voltage to be supplied to the smartphone, and the enlarged evaporation chamber helps to control heating during fast charging.
The iPhone 18 Pro almost fulfilled Apple’s promise
Apple claims that the iPhone 18 Pro charges to about 50% in 15 minutes. Chinese edition of iFanr conducted a detailed test of both new models, measuring charge level and power every minute for eight hours. The results showed that the declared speed is close to the real one.
iPhone 18 Pro during the first 13 minutes kept the power close 40 W. In the first 15 minutes, the battery was charged to 57%and after 30 minutes the charge level reached 84%. More iPhone 18 Pro Max showed even higher power. For the first 10 minutes, he steadily received close 54 Wafter which he reached 50% in 15 minutes and 80% in 30 minutes. That is, the difference between the models is not only in the size of the battery — Pro Max is able to maintain high power longer at the beginning of charging.

The main secret is SPR AVS
To get maximum speed, iPhone 18 Pro is required 60W adapter with SPR AVS support. SPR AVS stands for Standard Power Range / Adjustable Voltage Supply. This is a mechanism in the USB Power Delivery standard that allows the charger to vary the voltage much more precisely than conventional fixed profiles. A traditional charger can work, for example, with a voltage of 5, 9, 15 or 20 V. If a smartphone needs an intermediate value, part of the conversion has to be done inside the device itself. SPR AVS allows the charger to supply a voltage closer to what the smartphone directly needs. This can reduce energy loss during conversion. In the case of the iPhone 18 Pro, this is especially important: the smartphone during the main part of fast charging supports approx 18 V. According to the test, this voltage is maintained almost until the moment when the battery reaches 95%. After that, the system switches to a lower voltage, and the charging speed drops significantly.

Interestingly, the iPhone 17 already had the necessary technology
There is one more interesting detail. According to the test, the previous generation Apple charger already supported the technology required for such a mode. However iPhone 17 Pro did not use SPR AVS for charging. In the iPhone 18 Pro, this possibility is finally involved in practice. Thus, faster charging of the new generation is associated not only with an increase in maximum power. Apple also changed the way power is transferred between the adapter and the smartphone.
iPhone 18 Pro does not overheat during fast charging
High power usually means more heat, but during testing, the iPhone 18 Pro got moderately warm. The maximum body temperature during the first 30 minutes was 38.7 °C. It is during this period that the smartphone receives most of the necessary energy. At least two factors contribute to this. The first is a more efficient energy transfer at a voltage of about 18 V. The second is a new one evaporation chamberthe area of which is approximately three times larger than that of the previous generation. The increased area of the cooling system allows for more efficient heat distribution when the charge controller and battery are operating at high power.
Not every 60 or 65 W charger will do
iPhone 18 Pro owners should pay attention not only to the power figure on the charger case. For maximum speed, you need just that SPR AVS support. Simple compatibility with PPS, which is widely used in Android smartphones, is not enough. The test also addresses an issue with some 65W AVS-enabled chargers. If they misplace the charging profiles in their menus or report them in the wrong order, the iPhone may not detect the correct SPR AVS mode and switch to a different profile. Therefore, to obtain the maximum speed, you should use an adapter whose characteristics clearly stated SPR AVS supportor a model recommended by Apple.
What the iPhone 18 Pro test showed
Real measurements show that the fast charging of the iPhone 18 Pro is not just an increase in the declared capacity. Communication plays a key role 60 watt adapter, SPR AVS and charging at about 18V.
