Company realme has renewed its promise of software for the Number series, announcing that realme 16 Pro and 16 Pro will receive four major updates Android and six years of security patches, which will significantly increase long-term value for mid-range buyers. This change marks a change in realme’s approach to device longevity, bringing the mid-range lineup closer to the support period usually reserved for flagship models. Brand just released sensational news about his latest series Number.
Key points
- The realme 16 Pro series will receive 4 major Android OS updates and 6 years old security patches.
- Support will continue until Android 20and security updates will continue until 2032 year.
- This brings the Number series closer to the flagship line GT8 by the longevity of the software.

Breaking the pattern of disposable phones
For an average price segment, the commitment to updates is significant. Devices launched on Android 16 (realme UI 7.0) are now slated to be upgraded to Android 20, giving owners a much longer lifespan than typical budget or mid-range phones. This extension matters because many buyers now use phones longer; long-term OS and security support reduces the need for replacement and improves resale and device security over time.
Hardware and durability: a realistic combination?
Actual results will vary by hardware. The 16 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, while the 16 Pro uses the Dimensity 7300 Max — powerful chips, but not premium flagships. Expectations that these SoCs will provide a smooth Android 20 experience five years from now are optimistic. However, the company’s willingness to apply similar extensions to the previous 14 and 15 series models is a promising sign of consistency.
Price change for better support
realme’s software promise comes with price hikes for the 16 Pro range in many markets. The company appears to be changing its identity from a “technology promoter” to a more “premium” position. This strategy relies on consumers to accept higher upfront costs in exchange for longer OS security and support. Will there be features like “Flux Engine” or 200-megapixel camera relevant until 2032 is unknown, but at least software support will not be a limiting factor.
What this means for the market
realme’s policy of continuous updates narrows the gap in support between mid-range phones and flagship models, making long-term ownership more practical. If realme lives up to its promises, buyers of the 16 Pro series will get a significant increase in device life and security assurance.
