Samsung can replace One UI on Galaxy OS — a new software platform with deeper integration of artificial intelligence. According to the insider Phone Futurist, the company is eyeing a massive software update that could debut alongside the Galaxy S28 series in 2028. So far, this is only a leak: Samsung has not officially confirmed any development Galaxy OSno plans to abandon One UI. If the information is true, the changes may be much more extensive than the next annual update of the Android shell. Samsung likely wants to make AI an integral part of the operating system, rather than just a set of separate tools for photo editing, translation, and text writing.
Galaxy OS instead of One UI: why Samsung a new system
According to the insider, the project is currently being discussed under two possible names — One UI 10 or Galaxy OS. The final decision, if it will be made at all, is currently unknown. The time for a large-scale update seems symbolic: by the time the Galaxy S28 is released in 2028, the One UI interface will approach the ten-year mark. During this period, it has evolved into a functional Android shell with lots of customizations, system tools, and customization options. At the same time, the expansion of functionality has a reverse side. New AI-powered menus, settings, and tools can complicate everyday smartphone use. Therefore, the potential change of the platform could concern not only the appearance, but also the logic of interaction with the device. However, there is no confirmation that Samsung is indeed planning to completely abandon One UI. Galaxy OS may turn out to be the working name of the project, rather than the name of the future operating system.

Samsung and Google may integrate AI more deeply
One of the key directions of the project, according to the leak, is Samsung’s closer cooperation with Google. The goal is to integrate artificial intelligence at the system level so that the smartphone can perform more complex tasks without having to constantly switch between applications. Galaxy AI now covers various capabilities, including text assistance, translation and image editing. Deeper integration could combine similar functions into a single system that better understands the context of user requests. For example, instead of independently opening several programs, the owner of a smartphone could formulate a task in natural language, and the system would determine the necessary actions and perform them sequentially. This is only a possible development scenario and not a confirmed list of Galaxy OS features. The insider did not give specific examples of the future system and did not explain what features could become exclusive to new smartphones.
Will you have to pay for the new Galaxy AI features?
Another aspect of the leak is the possibility of the appearance of paid services from third-party companies. It’s about potential additional AI tools that Samsung could offer through partners. It is not yet known what services are being considered, whether they will require a subscription, and how they will be integrated into the software. Therefore, there is currently no reason to talk about the introduction of a mandatory paid subscription for Galaxy owners. However, the question of the cost of AI functions remains important. If useful features that are currently available without a separate payment are later transferred to a paid model, this may cause dissatisfaction among users. For Samsung, the optimal solution would be to clearly separate basic system tools and additional services for which third-party developers are responsible. But it is not known whether the company will choose such an approach.
The Galaxy S28 could be the beginning of a new phase
The Samsung Galaxy S28 series is expected in 2028. If the company is really preparing a large-scale restructuring of the software, this model range can be the platform for its first implementation. Until then, Samsung has plenty of time to change plans, revise the concept or leave One UI as the basis of its smartphones. There is currently no official Galaxy OS announcement, confirmation of the One UI 10 name, or a specific development schedule. If the leak is confirmed, the main criterion for success will not be the number of new AI functions, but how much they will simplify the daily use of the smartphone. A more intelligent system will only make sense if it helps to complete tasks faster, without overloading the interface and without creating unnecessary costs. For now, information about Galaxy OS should be taken as unconfirmed plans, and not as an announcement of a successor to One UI.
